Biography
Early life
Tarun Tahiliani is the son of an admiral of the Indian Navy. He studied business at the Wharton School in the United States before turning to fashion, later studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
Ensemble
In 1987, with his wife Sailaja, he opened Ensemble in Mumbai, India’s first multi-designer boutique, which helped launch the careers of many Indian designers. He started his own label in 1990.
Style
Tahiliani is known for fluid draping, corsetry combined with traditional Indian garments, and fine embroidery and textiles. His bridal collections have made him one of India’s best-known couture designers.
International
He has shown his collections internationally and was one of the first Indian designers to show at Milan Fashion Week. His label sells through stores in India and abroad.
