Technical Guruji is the YouTube channel of Gaurav Chaudhary, a creator from Ajmer based in Dubai whose Hindi gadget reviews and technology explainers made him the first technology YouTuber anywhere to pass 10 million subscribers. He received the Tech Creator Award at India’s first National Creators Award in 2024.
Biography
Early life
Gaurav Chaudhary was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, and studied at a Kendriya Vidyalaya school. He later moved to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where he is based.
Technical Guruji
He launched Technical Guruji in October 2015 to explain smartphones, gadgets and the internet in simple Hindi — just as cheap mobile data was bringing hundreds of millions of Indians online for the first time. The channel grew rapidly: in September 2018 it was ranked among the ten most-subscribed technology channels in the world, and in November 2018 he was reported to be the first technology YouTuber anywhere to pass 10 million subscribers. In 2017 he started a second channel, Gaurav Chaudhary, about his personal life.
Content and audience
Technical Guruji’s videos cover smartphone launches, comparisons, unboxings, apps, internet safety and explainers on new technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence, always in conversational Hindi. The channel’s success showed the size of India’s Hindi-speaking audience coming online through cheap smartphones, and helped inspire a wave of regional-language technology creators. Chaudhary has also used his platform to give away phones and gadgets to viewers and to discuss digital-safety issues such as online fraud.
Before YouTube
Gaurav Chaudhary grew up in Ajmer, Rajasthan, studied engineering and moved to Dubai, where he worked as a security-systems engineer while building his channel in his spare time. He started Technical Guruji in 2015 and later left his job to work on YouTube full time; he also runs a second channel focused on vlogs.
Recognition
Chaudhary appeared in YouTube Rewind in 2018 and 2019 and was named in the Forbes India 30 Under 30 list in 2020. On 8 March 2024 he received the Tech Creator Award from the Prime Minister at the inaugural National Creators Award.
